My Education and Experience

I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and minors in Geology and Computer Science from Northwest Missouri State University (NWMSU) in May of 1996. I was the recipient of a research assistantship at Murray State University (MSU) in Murray, KY, where I worked for the Mid-America Remote Sensing Center (MARC) while attending graduate school. I received my Master of Science degree in Geography with an emphasis in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in August 1999.

I worked for the Little Rock Wastewater Utility (LRWU) from August 1998 to August 2006. I had one year of overlap where I traveled just about every other weekend to Murray, KY, to finish my thesis work. That was a very long year. I took a position in 2001 with Carter and Burgess, Inc., but soon found out that I did not fit into the consulting world, so I returned to LRWU. Prior to working at LRWU and C&B, I worked a variety of jobs dealing with everything from cadastral mapping to fast food. Hopefully, I will never return to the fast food industry. While at NWMSU, I had internships with GeoTech Services, the Northwest Regional Council of Governments and the City of Branson, MO. While at MSU, I worked for MARC and the Calloway County PVA.

At LRWU, I worked primarily with ESRI ArcGIS software. I still, from time to time, have to write some AML code or perform some tasks in ArcInfo Workstation, but most of my work now is developing custom applications with ArcObjects in VBA for our end users in the Engineering department and at the treatment and maintenance facilities. I continue to develop my knowledge of new technologies by taking ESRI training classes when possible. The following is a list of the coarses that I have completed:
Introduction to Visual Basic for ESRI Software; ESRI On-line Campus; 10/01
Introduction to Programming ArcObjects with VBA; Salt Lake City, UT; 12/01
Introduction to ArcSDE using ArcInfo 8; St. Charles, MO; 10/02
Creating and Managing Geodatabases; St. Charles, MO; 10/02
Introduction to ArcIMS; Little Rock, AR; 02/04
ArcIMS Administration; Little Rock, AR; 02/04
Customizing ArcIMS with ArcXML; Denver, CO; 06/04
Customizing ArcIMS with HTML and JavaScript; Denver, CO; 06/04

I now work for Harrison County, IA, as the GIS Coordinator.  I seem to be much more than just the GIS Coordinator.  I am not even just a GIS guy anymore.  I do a lot of work trouble shooting computer issues for other departments as-well-as maintaining Harrison County's website and assisting with Harrison County Conservation Board's website.  I would eventually like to taking some more training and quite possibly go back to school and get another degree in either business or computer science.  For now, I am just concentrating on work, family and doing my part for Chelle's Creative Photography.
